"To the Muslim World, We Seek A New Way Forward"

What does this mean?

"We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, -pause- Jews and Hindus - and non-believers.... To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect."
Barack Hussein Obama
I'm not sure what that means. I do know that he consciously avoided using his middle name during the campaign and consciously used his middle name during his swearing in ceremony. What is the message?

Bringing dignity back to the White House, new Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel:

  1. Very clever, if you ask me. Watched it last night. People all over the world would have been listening closely to the order he put that, and in typical Obama style he's using his superb knowledge of the power of words to 'attempt' to make 'everybody' happy (somehow). If he'd said Christians and Jews first and foremost (or Jews and Christians) the Muslims would probably have been up in arms, and it would have been perfect ammo for another one of their - "See, America is nothing but a coalition of Crusaders and Zionists" outbursts. Putting Muslims second, Jews third, and 'Non believers' right at the back though was a bit too obviously for 'ease world opinion' effect though,in my opinion.

I don't live in the U.S but I believe you have far more Christians,Jews, and "Non-believers" (aka : Infidels/Kafirs?) first and foremost than Muslims?

Hindus ahead in the list before Non believers, too? I'm pretty sure that's very inaccurate also. Personally I wanted to know why he didn't mention Agnostics :D. Coming down the steps he was oddly introduced as "Barack 'H' Obama" (when folks like Clinton were introduced as "William Jefferson Clinton"). Later on he couldn't avoid the 'Hussein' part during the oath though. Overall I think he was very clever to mention things but not be overly specific, so as to please all. Network that threatens us? We assume he's talking about groups like Al Qaeda / Muslim Brotherhood, etc. Or perhaps he hoped others around the world thought he meant some other ideology based in the west? Was he referring to Iran when he was talking about regimes preventing dissent?

We assume he was. But he was never specific (if memory serves), and in that clever style of his he left many things a blank page for people to write on themselves. 'Change' is one of them.

A master at planting disclaimers so that the 'people' will be held to account if his administration doesn't 'change' things as much as people hoped, too. But that's the thing about this guy. All those years with Pastors, he is a master speaker. Superb speaker. Classy. But time will tell if he lives up to the hype.
