This extraordinary photo is of Pope Benedict XVI meeting with Rabbi Arthur Schneier a few days ago in New York. Both men are roughly the same age, both were born in Germany and both experienced World War II and all of the turbulence of that generation, and went on to live extraordinary lives of faith. Their paths cross in this fascinating moment in their old age, they speak in their native tongue and it is as if all of the difficult history fades into a simple recognition that we are all brothers in the end.
