Democrat Congressman Clyburn: Success in Iraq Could be "a problem" for Democrats

Well, at least one Democrat Congressman is not embarrassed to tell the truth. Success in Iraq may be good for America, but it would be terrible for Democrats, many of whom have virtually been cheering on the enemy and celebrating (politically speaking) American deaths in Iraq; as an effective tool to boost their political fortunes.

Stanislav Shmulevich Arrested for a "Hate-crime", charged with throwing Koran in the Toilet...In New York

LFG posts on an outrageous development at Pace University, where a student, Stanislav Shmulevich of Brooklyn, was arrested on charges of criminal mischief and aggravated harassment, both serious hate crimes, for throwing a Koran into a toilet. Piss Christ is OK as art, defecating on an American flag in the middle of the street or burning a Bible at an anti-Christian rally is OK...but putting a Koran in the toilet is where we in America draw the line on free speech. OK, just so we know what the rules of the game are.

Russia to sell 250 long-range Sukhoi-30 fighter jets to Iran

This is truly a disturbing report: It seems that Russia intends to sell Iran 250 long-range Sukhoi-30 fighter jets, along with refueling planes, giving Iran long-range offensive capabilities, including the ability to strike Israel and Europe. Russia recently supplied Iran with advanced antiaircraft systems used to protect Teheran's nuclear installations. At the time, Moscow said it reserved the right to sell Iran weapons, such as the antiaircraft system, that were of a defensive nature. the Sukhoi-30 is clearly a offensive capable weapons system. This is back to a real Cold War mindset with Russia, again, acting as the bad guy.

Arab princesses kicked off British Airways plane to jeers and whistles after refusing to sit next to male strangers

Got to love this little item in the UK Daily Mail: It seems that female relatives of the filthy rich Emir of Qatar were seated next to...are you ready for this...MALE PASSENGERS, on a British Airways flight out of Milan. As the plane taxied to the runway, demands were loudly made by male relatives of the princesses that other passengers be separated and reseated to accommodate the sexual apartheid requirements of radical Islam. When the normal passengers refused, all hell broke loose causing a 3 hour delay. The pilot finally kick the royal Muslim family off the plane. Hallelujah! Now, if only the British government would develop the same backbone as this pilot, we might be getting somewhere.

Sarkozy: Trust Arab states with nukes

If this report from Reuters/CNN is accurate, it is simply stunning and I will abandon any confidence in the mental sanity of Nicolas Sarkozy. To think that I enthusiastically cheered for this man's electoral victory in France. This is literally so far off the reservation, that France might now be viewed as a dangerous threat to international stability. I am hoping that this is all a media misrepresentation.

Chavez, who called Bush "The Devil" in the US, now says Critical Foreigners to Get The Boot from Venezuela

Leftist logic: Hugo Chavez, the socialist President of Venezuela who stood at the UN, and later at a church in New York City, and called the President of the United States "The Devil", declared yesterday that any foreigner who visits Venezuela and criticizes him will be immediately ejected from the country.

"How long are we going to allow a person - from any country in the world - to come to our own house to say there's a dictatorship here, that the president is a tyrant, and nobody does anything about it?" Chavez asked. Maybe it's just me.

Democrats Kill John Doe

Working for the enemy; and that's the only way to describe it unfortunatly; Democrats have killed the John Doe bill to protect the public from CAIR-type lawsuits if they reports suspicious activities on airplanes.

An Israeli Lefty Begins his Neocon Evolution

I find this article by a hard-core Israeli lefty in the Jerusalem Post, fascinating. His are the words of a man in ideological transition; a liberal who has been mugged by reality. He is clearly at the beginning of his long and difficult journey away from years of social and ideological conformity to leftist orthodoxy; compelled by the reality of needing to keep his family and country safe, and his mind sane, he will undoubtedly, slowly, eventually, have no alternative but to join the ranks of us unapologetic "Neocons". Most of us went through the same journey. Mr. forman will find that should he persist in this direction, he will loose many friends whom he will discover are not as "tolerant" as he had thought. We wish Mr. Forman good luck. A few samples from this tormented liberal:

Having grown up in a home of diehard New Deal Democrats, with a wider family circle that included hard-core socialists and communists, and having come of age in the United States during the turbulent 1960s, every fiber in my body is filled with political and social liberalism.

Since the onset of the second intifada, the rise of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Hamas's takeover of Gaza, the encroachment of Hizbullah, I am fighting forces within me that are edging to the political right - all the while desperately holding on to a progressive philosophical mindset. In the deepest recesses of my being, I am finding it difficult to maintain my usual equilibrium.

How do I maintain a sense of justice for Palestinians and continue to advocate for their human rights, when I know they are being swept up by a pan-Islamism characterized by Islamist extremism? We hate the security barrier because it steals Palestinian lands, divides villages and separates families, but we sleep better knowing our children no longer play Russian roulette with their lives when they venture out in public. We deplore targeted assassinations, but when the IDF kills terrorists on their way to fire rockets into Sderot, we breathe a sigh of relief.

Has the Right read the political map better than we have? Everything that those who opposed the unilateral withdrawals from Lebanon and Gaza predicted would happen has happened. Hizbullah in the north and Hamas in the south are squeezing us and, at a moment's notice, could wreak havoc upon the country.

SO, WHAT'S an Israeli liberal Jew to do - turn to our leftist sympathizers abroad to gain some perspective and objectivity? Who are they - the American Center for Constitutional Rights that has issued warrants for the arrest of Moshe Ya'alon and Avi Dichter for war crimes; the International Solidarity Movement or the Christian Peacemaker Teams whose Web sites are veritable wellsprings of anti-Semitic drivel? You see why I feel besieged - even my natural allies put me on the defensive.

We activists for decency and fair play for the other can no longer bury our heads in the sand. We must find a way to reconcile our ideological liberalism with the harsh political realities of a bellicose neighborhood and an indifferent at best, hostile at worst, world community that allows the UN Human Rights Commission to single out Israel for permanent scrutiny.

For those of us born with a liberal spoon in our mouths, the challenge is formidable - almost frantic. Painful memories of our history, presently reflected in the mirror of a dangerous new reality, compel us to examine and reexamine, evaluate and reevaluate our deeply held principles - even as we resolutely cling to our ideals, steadfastly advancing a social agenda that impels Israel to be a "light unto the nations."

President of Iran: "It's Going to Be a Hot Summer in the Middle East"

I'm sure many on the left will assume that he is talking about "global warming", but for the rest of us, this threat is to be taken seriously. Iranian President Ahmadinejad is in Damascus today meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad, and he also conducted surprise meetings with Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal. Following these meetings, Ahmadinejad said: "We hope that the hot weather of this summer will coincide with similar victories for the region's peoples, and with consequent defeat for the region's enemies."

The Earmark to Nowhere

Congressman Flake (R-AZ) exposes how politicians distribute tax money to trusted allies and get large contributions to their coffers in exchange. Politicians, as in this case, go to great lengths to disguise the process of earmarks in exchange for contributions, to the extent that funds are allocated to non-existing entities.

A Rare, Rational Anti-Iraq War Article

The readers of this site know that I support the war effort in Iraq and Afghanistan, and generally hold in contempt the great majority of those who blindly oppose the US war effort out of extreme ideological opposition to "Western imperialism", or who suffer from "Bush derangement syndrome," or who are hysterically opposed to war in general. But that does not mean that I am closed-minded to rational arguments made by thoughtful liberals. I came across this well thought-out piece by H.D.S. Greenway in the Boston Globe. A rare, calm and rational critique of the war in Iraq, using history as precedence. Even though, this piece is certainly not enough to cause a shift in my overall support of our policies and objectives, unlike almost all hysterical lefty Iraq war criticism, this piece made me think. A few highlights:

Consider the British experience in Palestine and their 30-year mandate after World War I. The British entered Palestine believing that they were liberating the land from Ottoman tyranny. Britain, with its technological and military superiority . . . its entrepreneurial and missionary zeal, its largely democratic institutions, was to take the once-great peoples of the East into tutelage and direct their slow but sure progress under stable and just government. This clashed almost immediately with the reality of Palestine.

The government expected the army to impose peace between the Jews and the Arabs, as a result of which it had to fight both of them. At first the British "reflected indefatigable optimism," Segev writes, and were slow to realize that they were in the middle of a civil war in which neither side would compromise. Both sides were wedded to their national identity and committed to victory. Casualties mounted as the British tried troop surges to get on top of deteriorating security.

The British were blown up in terrorist attacks, their soldiers kidnapped and killed. When they weren't surging, they holed up in Green Zone-like enclaves called "Bevingads," after Foreign Minister Ernest Bevin.

Toward the end, Chief Secretary William Battershill wrote that the British were staying because "they just did not know how to pull out," according to Segev. Bevin admitted to David Ben-Gurion, who would become Israel's first prime minister, that "Palestine is not vital to England, but England does not want to have to admit failure."

A principle reason for staying on was fear of the chaos that would follow a retreat. But after 30 years of trying to engineer compromise, the British left with their tails between their legs when support on the home front collapsed. Once they were gone, the feared upsurge of bloodshed between Arabs and Jews was realized, and the nightmare of outside intervention from neighboring states came to pass. The ramifications are with us still.

There may be little comparison between the two national movements who fought the British and each other over Palestine and the contentious groups struggling for power in Iraq today. But the danger of a foreign power fighting a long war to force compromise on combatants who have no interest in compromise is hauntingly similar.

Ellison: Bush is Hitler and 9/11 is the Reichstag Fire

To fully understand how deranged many on the left are, just listen to America's first Muslim member of congress, Democrat Keith Ellison of Minnesota: In a colorful speech before 300 enthusiastic members of 'Atheists for Human Rights,' Ellison said that 9/11 is "almost like the Reichstag fire, kind of reminds me of that." Ellison's speech, and the forum in which he gave it, is a rather colorful illustration of the unholy union between secular leftists, and radical Islam. Of course it has always been suspected that the Nazi's started the Reichstag fire to justify Hitlers crackdown on civil liberties; Implication? Bush may have been behind 9/11 to crack down on civil liberties. Then there is the troubling business of making a moral comparison between Bush and Hitler, which Ellison had no problem making. And then, of course, there is the matter of how this trivializes the holocaust and all the rest of the Nazi atrocities. There are simply no words to describe how deranged and offensive this mindset is, and this is a siting member of the United States Congress. The video:

Israel to Allow Nayef Hawatmeh Into the West bank: Was Responsible for the Massacare of Ma'alot School Children in 1974

Many of us are old enough to remember the Ma'alot massacre in 1974; members of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, headed by Nayef Hawatmeh, infiltrated Northern Israel from Lebanon and after a short killing spree, they entered a school building in the small town of Ma'alot. They took around 90 children hostage; when a rescue attempt was mounted, they killed 26 children in cold blood and injured about 60 more. Nayef Hawatmeh, leader of the DFLP and the man behind that atrocity is now being invited into the West Bank to strengthen the hand of Palestinian President Abbas in his internal battle against Hamas. What a disgusting little piece of "real politic." I guess for some folks in Israel's political class, bygones should be bygones, even when it comes to the murder of children if it suits the political winds of the moment. Ma'alot was truly the Beslan of the 1970's; an inexcusable atrocity and I am truly surprised that Hawatmeh was not hunted down and eliminated like other top PLO murderers who were responsible for less mayhem than himself.

Worlds Tallest Man Meets the Worlds Shortest

All of the major photo agencies have snapped wonderful photo's of the worlds tallest man, Bao Xishun, meeting the worlds shortest man, He Pingping. These and others can be found at the UK Daily Mail who seem to have a splendid photo editor and seem to outdo most publications on imaging, in my humble opinion.

Nobel Peace Prize Winner Betty Williams : "Kill Bush"

I have not come to expect much of Nobel "peace" prize winners. It's not even a real "prize" anyway. What does one have to do to win one? Being a mass murderer who pioneered the use of international terrorism helped Yasser Arafat get one; and being an incompetent president and well known anti-Semite helped Jimmy Carter get one. Now we have Nobel "peace" winner Betty Williams of Ireland announcing that she “could kill George Bush.” Oky doky.

The father of modern international terrorism, Yasser Arafat is also a Nobel "Peace" Laureate. Maybe it's just me and my lack of liberal sophistication.

New York Times: Fred Thompson's Wife Jeri is Nothing More Than a "Trophy Wife"

I don't even know where to begin with this story. The New York Times have truly reached a new low, describing Fred Thompson's wife as nothing more than a "trophy wife."

"Is America ready for a president with a trophy wife?
The question may seem sexist, even crass, but serious people — as well as Mr. Thompson’s supporters — have been wrestling with the public reaction to Jeri Kehn Thompson, whose youthfulness, permanent tan and bleached blond hair present a contrast to the 64-year-old man who hopes to win the hearts of the conservative core of the Republican party. Will the so-called values voters accept this union?"
What a disgusting crowd of creepos over at the NYT, and notice that reference to the "so called" values voters.

MEMRI Report: Lebanon 'to Erupt in One Week'

REPORT: Syria has called on its citizens to leave Lebanon ahead of an expected "eruption" in that country on or around July 15th, Arab and Iranian press reports have said. Within Lebanon itself, the Hezbollah-led opposition threatened to establish a "second government" through "historical steps" in mid July, according to senior Hezbollah officials quoted in the Lebanese media. Interviews on Syrian TV with various pro-Syrian "opposition" players in Lebanon strongly indicate that their plan will soon be set in motion. This is essentially part of the Shiite-Sunni struggle for dominance and Lebanon's Seniora government could very well be the next to fall to radical Islamists, just as Gaza fell weeks ago. It is highly likely that our State Department is unprepared, as usual, for the chain of events that seems about to be set in motion in Lebanon which could have region-wide negative implications.

Saterday Night

I guess this post reveals my age...

Jogging is "Right Wing" According to Sarkozy Critics

It seems that left-wingers in France suffer from the same psychotic disorder that leftists in the US do. Because Sarkozy jogs, jogging is now a highly suspect "right-wing" activity, inconsistent with leftist "collectivist" values"

Sarkozy has rekindled a French suspicion that the habit of jogging is for self-centred individualists such as the Americans who popularised it. “Jogging is of course about performance and individualism, values that are traditionally ascribed to the Right.”
Some lefty commentators also see something sinister in the media fascination with le jogging de Supersarko. The “hypnotic” daily images of presidential running are not innocent, said Daniel Schneidermann, a media critic. Mr Sarkozy uses the video images of his jogging as “a major weapon of media manipulation”, said Mr Schneidermann. Is there any hope for these deeply troubled souls?

Blair gets it

UK 'Terror ringleader' Mohammed Asha is brilliant NHS doctor

One of the reasons liberals are having a hard time grasping the Islamic threat is because they can't pin the issue on poverty or lack of education. To date, Islamic suicide bombers in the west are more likely to be educated and middle class. This does not fit a traditional liberal explanation of things, where evil is almost always viewed as the product of social short-comings, economic or educational. They are now forced to fall back on more abstract and less convincing explanations like our "foreign policy" to explain away the actions of psychopathic murderers.
